Clubfoot Bracing BnB/FAB Options and Types

Different Shoes and Bars, Different Manufacturers....

There actually are a number of different braces available for post Ponseti Method casting, but almost all of them are the same general concept which is two shoes attached to a bar that is shoulder width apart and bent in such a way that the shoes sit dorsiflexed to approximately 15-20 degrees. The angle of the shoes varies depending on what's going on with your child's foot, but typically unless your child has complex or atypical feet will be 70 degrees. If your child has a complex or atypical clubfoot, the angle of abduction should be 50-60 degrees. Some doctors are using 60 degrees due to the recent publication of a study saying that 60 degrees is good enough, but since some shoes can't be set at 60 degrees, 70 is normal.

This page does not discuss the C-Pro ADM brace in depth other than to note the boots and bar option to their modular system. For more information about the ADM, please see the ADM page (currently pretty bare, please be patient as we develop more content for this website).

What's the brace called? .

There's a few different ways that people title the brace, but it's official name is a Foot Abduction Brace (or Bar, but usually Brace). This is often referred to by the acronym FAB. You will see this term used on this website, as well as on many other official clubfoot information sites and also most medical study papers. The more common and less technical term for the brace now is "Boots & Bar" or BnB. I'm not sure how this came about but perhaps it's because the keyboard keys for BnB are closer together? Regardless of if FAB or BnB is used, it means the same thing.
